The Human Fossil Record. Volume 2 Craniodental Morphology of Genus Homo (Africa and Asia)

(Ben Green) #1

for superior petrous sinus is preserved on internal side
of mound. Subarcuate fossa appears to be low down; it
may not have been hlly closed over. Sigmoid sinus
moderately incised but not very large; descends almost
vertically below posterior aspect of petrosal. Appears
that confluence of sigmoid with transverse sinus
was contained entirely within temporal bone. What
appears to be a broken foramen spinosum may be
contained entirely within sphenoid.
Alveoli for Is and Cs variably preserved; all are in
states of resorption and abscessing. Single preserved
tooth is small, highly worn LM3, with a truncated
metacone region and no hypocone.
Large cranial fragment, probably of parietal and
possibly from R side, has been incorporated into
reconstruction of this cranium, but it has proved
impossible for us to locate this piece accurately on
cranial vault.
