Matt Stechmann (NZL) won the 2014
OK Dinghy World Championship at Black
Rock YC in Melbourne, held from
December 28 to January 4 2015,
after a week beset by bad weather
leaving only five races sailed out of a
possible 10. Going into the final race,
any of five boats could have taken the
title. Both Stechmann and runner up
Luke O’Connell (NZL) used home
built wooden boats, the last time a
home built boat won the world title was
Roger Blasse, back in 1998.
NATIONAL HERON
CHAMPIONSHIP
26 entrants contested the 56th
National Heron Championship
regatta held at Lindisfarne,
Tasmania. Heronasaurus sailed
by Queensland’s David Johnson
crewed by sons Tom and Lachlan
won the title. The Johnson
family sailed very well in a mix
of conditions. The first two boats are GRP hulls built by
Dinghy Sports and carried the standard Heron jib. Flaw
Show is a home built timber boat and was the best placed
of the competitors using the larger headsail that is now
