Tone opted for a soft colour palette in the main

house giving the space a sense of calm. The floors are

white with a touch of grey and most of the walls and

ceilings are painted a fresh white. ‘This is typically

Scandinavian’ she says. ‘It’s because we have such dark

winters but still want a cosy light interior.’ However

Tone has peppered her home with darker tones too. You

see this in the bathroom’s deep grey accent wall (see page

84. as well as in the rugs pillows and paintings. ‘I love

washed-out earthy hues’ she says. ‘My favourite accent

colour is a deep dark blue.’

The understated colour palette is

the perfect backdrop for the furniture

and accessories Tone has gathered

from her trips. ‘I travel a lot and buy

anything I think is beautiful’ she

enthuses. ‘I like to discover unique

pieces that no one else has.’ The travel

is mostly to garner inspiration for her

work as an interior stylist. ‘I never

visit interiors stores when I’m away.

I’m mostly looking at architecture

people and unusual colour and

pattern combinations’ she explains.

You see an example of this in the

master bedroom (page 84) which

Tone has decorated with an eclectic

array of furniture including an Indian

cabinet an antique Italian chair and a

Norwegian side table. All these pieces

coalesce in a beautiful creative way.

Similarly the main sitting room

features a white linen Italian sofa

two vintage ‘Tulip’ chairs and a worn

rug from a trip to Istanbul. ‘I love

old rugs – the structure the look the

history. Rugs are very important because they ground

the room and can be used to create zones’ she says.

Tone loves to visit flea markets and often returns

to places such as Marrakesh and Beijing just for their

wonderful markets. ‘I think I’ve been to Marrakesh and

Beijing more than 20 times’ she says. This explains

the abundance of clay vases and Buddhas arranged on

shelves window sills and ledges around the house.

‘I find Buddhas so peaceful. I buy them from a huge

flea market in Beijing’ she explains. In her quest for

Tone loves to visit flea markets and often returns to places such as
