Perfect in Pastel
a sumptuous show is being played out at the Petit Palais showcasing 130 pastels from the museum’s formidable collection of over
200 works in this delicate medium. entitled L’art du Pastel de degas à redon (The art of Pastel from degas to redon), the exhibition
offers an exhaustive and exhilarating panorama of the artistic currents of the second half of the 19th century, impressionism and
symbolism while taking visitors on a discovery of a little known side of the history of this technique, a technique often associated
with the 18th century. Works by Berthe Morisot, auguste renoir, Paul Gauguin, Mary cassat and edgar degas are on display in
addition to a fine ensemble of works by the symbolists. The fragile works are being shown for an exceptional duration of six months
before being returned to the museum’s reserve.
