TSB & EAW Turn The Sound A-Round
R
oundHouse Pizza Bar & Grill is the
new watering hole nestled within the
tranquil stretch of the affl uent Bukit
Timah district in Singapore. With its friendly
wait staff and Western-themed menu, the
300-seater restaurant bar considers itself a
“great space to stretch your legs and unwind
your mind”.
In the one year since it opened, Roundhouse
has been growing in popularity and has even
garnered nods from various local food criti cs.
With word getti ng around that Roundhouse
was the place to be, especially on 'Quiz
Nights' aka Wednesday nights, co-owner
Wayne Gladwin decided it was ti me to
upgrade the audio systems so that staff could
be heard over the din of the evening crowd.
“Roundhouse is a big space and with the
old system, the sound level was so low that
we needed to use hand signals to let the
engineer inside [where the console is] know
that the sound level outside was too loud,”
he reported. “Luckily we have glass walls so
it made it easier but the fact that we had
to communicate that way was really ti ring.
We knew there had to be a bett er way to do
things.”
Wayne engaged the services of TSB Global
Distributi ons (TSB), the distributi on and
integrati on arm of Singapore-based rental
company, TSB Producti ons Pte Ltd. General
Manager and overall face of TSB Global, Ted
Singh was put in charge of the project where
the only guidelines were “a system that could
provide clear sound and would not 'burnout'
from the high usage”.
“The restaurant has live events every
weekend with diff erent themes, so the
systems would have to handle all kinds of
music – from jazz to hard rock – and sti ll be
a fi xed installati on,” clarifi ed Ted. “A portable
system would just be a hassle to the team
so they wanted something hands-free and
simple, yet eff ecti ve”.
With a deadline of two days, it didn't take
long for Ted to fi nd that EAW speakers were
the right fi t for Roundhouse. Dealing with an
8000sq ft venue that contained, an internal
bar, external games area, and a garden, Ted
split the compound into four 'zones' and
decided to keep everything “off the ground”.
This resulted in specifying the SMS series
from EAW as it contains a range of two-way
loudspeaker systems engineered for surface
