HaAavve U Met...?
March - April 2015
By Elissa Nadine
You have a very interesti ng “origin”
story on how you ended up in
Singapore...
Arron: Well, I've been a Permanent Resident
in Singapore since 2008. On top of that, I
currently hold 3 diff erent passports. Haha..
I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and
migrated to Canada when I was 5 where
I became a citi zen. My mother was from
Glasgow, Scotland so through her I applied
for a Briti sh Passport as well. I've lived in
Singapore since I was 16 years old. I grew up
here and this is where I became an adult. For
me, I'm more familiar with this country and
I've lived here longer than anywhere else in
my life. So it's home for me.
How did you get your start in the
industry?
Arron: In school, I always had a passion
for sound and I also had a knack for being
behind the mixer. I loved doing recording and
live sound, plus I was a musician at the ti me
[high school] so audio became this thing
that I ended up doing because nobody
else in the band knew how to do it.
Once I got that fi rst live gig of having
thousands of people roaring for
one band, I was hooked and that
was it.
The name of your band
originates from the
Lati n phrase “Tabula
Rasa”. Tell us more..
Arron: We now call
ourselves Tabula,
but I remember
I came across
the phrase in
school. It actually
means 'clean
slate' in English. It's
basically the opposite
of fate. It sti pulates that any
interacti ons, questi ons or any kind
of decision you make in your life, changes the
outcome of your future. I liked the meaning
Not being able to disti nguish the lines between engineer and musician, Arron
Jardine found his career during music class in high school. Nowadays, not
only is he the owner of his own installati on company, but aft er 11 years, he
maintains the ti tle of lead guitarist in his high school Top
40s cover band. As a Permanent Resident in Singapore,
the 31-year-old shares why he “can’t imagine doing
anything else”, and how Asia will always be his
