Table4.19presents the means and standard deviation of TE scores of eastern,
central and western 211Us in 2006–2010. During thefive-year period, the means of
TE scores for eastern, central, and western 211Us are around 0.35–0.45, 0.32–0.43,
and 0.26–0.43 respectively, reflecting a decaying trend of research technical effi-
ciency from the east to the west. This is consistent with the evaluations results on
the research efficiency by university location from Lu and Liu ( 2006 ) and Tian and
Miao ( 2006 ), but their research makes no distinctions between NEAM and HSS
disciplines. Overall speaking, during thefive years, the TE situations of eastern,
central and western 211Usfirst increase then decrease and then increase again, but
their values are relatively small.
By the SDs of TE scores of eastern, central and western 211Us, their differences
are not obvious. The SD of central or western 211Us is slightly larger than that of
the eastern 211Us. This reflects that the differences on research efficiency among
central or western 211Us are bigger than those of eastern 211Us (Fig.4.9).
