Renewable energy is a what its name says it is:
a source of energy that can’t be exhausted. Take a
look at the four different forms of clean energy
THE RENEWABLES
SOLAR POWER
From the Latin sol meaning “sun”, this energy
is derived from – you guessed it! – our
power ful star. For so long as we have these
beams entering our atmosphere, we will
have solar energy. “Clean” energy does not
pollute our atmosphere, and solar fits the
bill! Best of all – it’s free! This is why solar
energy is being touted as an ef fective means
of powering our homes, par ticularly in rural
areas in sunny par ts of the planet. Many
people put solar panels on the roofs of their
houses. But how do they work? Solar panels
consist of units called photovoltaic cells, which
conver t sunlight into electricity. When the sun
shines, the panels absorb the solar energy by
allowing par ticles of light – called photons –
to rid electrons of atoms. This creates a flow
of electricity, which we can then use to power
our homes in a sustainable way.
