What to Watch

SUNDAYOCTOBER 22(cont.)

Curb Your
Enthusiasm
10–10:30PM | HBO

After being told
by his therapist
(Bryan Cranston)
that he’s “over-
stepping,” Larry
bribes an usher at
a funeral. Hmmm,
doesn’t sound like
he respects the
wood...en casket.

DEAD-ON COMEDY

Nature

8–9PM | PBS

You should watch
more wildlife pro-
gramming, right?
So, here: Otter
expert/nature film-
maker Charlie
Hamilton James
tracks the semi-
aquatic mammals
across the globe
to uncover their
“secrets.”Otters,
what do you know
and when did you
know it???

Modern Family

9–9:30PM | ABC

The Dunphy kids
think they’re too old
for Halloween. Not
surprisingly, Phil
thinks otherwise—
and he’s willing
to insert himself
into an absurdly
humongous pump-
kin to prove it.

Gotham
8–9PM | FOX

Gordon and Bullock
hunt down a serial
killer who adorns
his victims with
severed pig heads.
(Um, this is not
the kind of wildlife
programming
we had in mind
for you.)

The Good Place
8:30–9PM | NBC

The Neighborhood
has another
glitch. Or does it?
Never trust this
show. Love it, but
don’t trust it.

Scandal
9–10PM | ABC

POTUS Mellie preps
for the nuclear
summit. Any joke we
make would hit too
close to home,

MONOCT 23

Series Debut
Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television*
STREAMING| YOUTUBE RED

Don’t worry if you don’t know what YouTube Red is,
because Ryan Hansen spends lots of time explaining it in
this excessively meta comedy’s pilot. Playing a fictional-
ized version of himself, theVeronica Mars alum teams up
with a no-nonsense detective (Samira Wiley, the straight-
woman to his bumbling idiot) to solve crimes as part of a
ridiculous-sounding LAPD program. It’s a parody of pro-
cedurals likeCastle; however, the jokes feel obvious and
forced (see: the extended riff aboutNCIS: Los Angeles
featuring Eric Christian Olsen). There’s promise, but the
pilot doesn’t make a strong case for spending money on
yet another subscription service.C+—Chancellor Agard

TUESDAYOCTOBER 24

Series Debut
At Home With Amy Sedaris
10:30–11:30PM| TRUTV

Take one partPee-wee’s Playhouse and three
parts Martha Stewart, stir with a glitter pipe-
cleaner, serve over ice, and you’ve got this
absurdist send-up of homemaking series
from theStrangers With Candy co-creator.
“I grew up with hospitality-type shows in
the ’60s and ’70s where we had local people
cooking and crafting,” says Amy Sedaris.
“Since I was a young girl, I thought, ‘I’m
going to do that show when I grow up.’ ”
Each episode focuses on a single theme, like
Gift Giving or Fish, and features guest stars
(Stephen Colbert, Paul Giamatti) invited to
share in Sedaris’ surreal, primary-colored
version of entertaining.—Dana Schwartz

WEDNESDAYOCTOBER 25 THURSDAYOCTOBER 26

The Simpsons

8–8:30PM | FOX

The annual Tree-
house of Horror tees
up the terror with
Lisa discovering a
world in which but-
tons are sewn over
the eyes. Actually,
we all might need
to do that after
watching Homer get
served up as a meal
by Mario Batali.

Series Debut
The Jellies!

12:15–12:30AM

ADULT SWIM

Tyler, the Creator
co-created this com-
edy about a human
teen who freaks out
after learning he was
adopted at birth by
his all-jellyfish fam-
ily. Because comedy
should sting a bit.

Series Debut
Scared Famous
9–10PM | VH1

Reality stars like
Alaska and Tiffany
Pollard shack up
in a haunted man-
sion and compete
in horror-movie-
themed challenges
for charity. Would it
help if I told you that
Redman wasn’t the
host but the “master
of scare-a-monies”?

The Brave
10–11PM | NBC

Dalton and his crack
special-ops squad
trek to Nigeria to
rescue the ambas-
sador, only to find
the situation is not
what they expected.
And according to
Trump’s latest intel,
things are even
trickier in Nambia.

assuming there is a
home by the time
you’re reading this.

Beat Bobby Flay
10–10:30PM

FOOD NETWORK
This installment
of the chef’s beat-
me competition
is titled “Take a
Bao.” And for that
fun bun pun,
Bobby, take a bow.

Nathan for You

10–10:30PM
COMEDY CENTRAL

The off-kilter
pitchman devises
a rather unconven-
tional way for an
international export
company to ship its
smoke alarms tax-
free in this week’s
episode ofGet
Rich or Die of Awk-
wardness Tryin’.
