THE LIGHT
BETWEEN OCEANS

H

onestly, who wouldn’t want to
be sequestered on a windswept
New Zealand coast, with Michael
Fassbender and a costume trailer
of dreamy knitwear for company? We
can easily see how these two fell for
each other amid all the drama and
time spent gazing at the horizon while
fi lming The Light Between Oceans.
It’s been more than three years
since work on that project wrapped,
and this fi ercely private couple has
given little away regarding their
relationship. Case in point: the
Internet was abuzz in October when
news broke that Michael and Alicia
had tied the knot in a secret ceremony
in Ibiza – nobody even knew they
were engaged.

THE PLACE BEYOND
THE PINES

H

earts broke across the globe
in 2011 when Ryan Gosling
and Eva Mendes went public with
their relationship (which they did in
the most adorable way – a date at
Disneyland). While their on-screen
romance inThe Place Beyond the
Pineswas dysfunctional at best, in
real life Eva and Ryan are the picture
of happiness, with two daughters,
Esmeralda and Amada. Though they’re
another famously private pair and keep
details of their relationship well away
from the paparazzi, Ryan did tellHello!

CITY OF ANGELS

A

n operating theatre doesn’t usually
inspire romance, but that’s where
Oscar-, Emmy- and Tony-winner Viola
Davis fi rst crossed paths with Julius
Tennon – playing an anaesthetist and
a nurse in TV’s City of Angels in 2000.
‘The only thing I thought was, “He’s
good-looking. He’s really good-looking”,’
Viola told People. At the time, she was
till trying to break into the movie
cene and was feeling lonely in LA, so
ulius offered to show her around the
ity and take her to the Santa Monica
ier. That gallant gesture must have
worked – they’ll have been married for
5 years this June, and have a six-year-
old adopted daughter, Genesis (Viola is
also stepmother to Julius’s children from
previous relationships).
The couple’s next on-screen meeting
took place last year in season four
of Viola’s critically acclaimed show How
to Get Away with Murder. Needless to
say, it was hot and heavy.
But it’s their off-screen partnership
that’s the most impressive. In 2012,
the couple started JuVee Productions.
Through it, they aim to help correct
Hollywood’s lack of diversity by
‘producing narratives from a diverse
range of emerging and established
voices [so that] the next generation of
fi lmmakers and artists have the space
to craft dynamic stories spanning the
broad spectrum of humanity.’

magazine that the only quality he’s
interested in in a woman, is ‘that she’s
Eva Mendes. There’s nothing else I’m
looking for.’ Bless.
Oh and don’t even get us started
on his acceptance speech after he
scooped a Golden Globe last year
for his performance in La La Land.
‘While I was singing and dancing and
playing piano, my lady was raising our
daughter, pregnant with our second,
and trying to help her brother fi ght his
battle with cancer. If she hadn’t have
taken all that on so that I could have
this experience, it would surely be
someone else up here.’
