The France-born star arrived

in SW6 in August 2016 from KRC

Genk. He’d spent a season with

the Belgium side after a two-

year stint with Charleroi having

moved from Paris Saint-Germain.

It had all started with local team

ASA Montereau.

He had been a Fulham player for

little more than 24 hours when

he was thrown straight in for his

debut - the 1-0 win at Blackburn

Rovers in September. It took him

until the following February to

score his first goal for the Club but

he finished the season with six

strikes to his name.

“It can take time,” explains

Neeskens. “I remember when

I first came over, it took me a

while to settle down, probably

about six months. It does take

time to adapt to a new country

and a new language.

“At the start of every season, my

aim is to better than the previous

one. To compare it to last season,

at this stage I had no goals and no

assists. I’m trying to do more and

more and have better statistics.

I should have scored on Tuesday

from Abou’s cross but thankfully

Ryan Sessegnon was able to find

the net instead.

“Abou had a bit of a quiet start

but he’s still young and he can

be a big success at Fulham. He’s

more confident now he’s been

here for four or five months. He

has a good relationship with all

his teammates and he knows

what the gaffer wants. He’s going

to contribute to our season, for

sure. He’s powerful and fast as

well. So fast!
