COLIN BOULTON

Goalkeeper who made five league

appearances while on loan from

Derby County. Ever-present in

the Rams’ 1971/72 and 1974/75

Division One title-winning

campaigns, he joined Tulsa

Roughnecks in March 1978, then

LA Aztecs and Lincoln City. Later

worked for Mitre, settling in

Walton-on-Trent.

PETER RODRIGUES

Former Wales international

right-back who skippered

Saints’ 1976 FA Cup Final

triumph and netted three goals

in 59 league games prior to

joining Romsey Town after a

knee injury. Later ran several

pubs, including the King Rufus

at Eling, then was steward at

Shirley Conservative Club.

JIM STEELE

Tough-tackling central defender

who was Man of the Match

in the 1976 FA Cup Final

triumph. Scored twice in 161

league games prior to joining

Washington Diplomats in April

1977, then was a foreman at an

electrical plant in Washington.

Since returning to England, he

has been a publican.

MALCOLM WALDRON

Central defender who was

ever-present Player of the Year

as Saints were League Cup

Finalists in 1978/79. Netted 10

goals in 178 league games prior

to joining Burnley in September

1983, then Portsmouth,

becoming a regional health care

manager for BUPA.

MEL BLYTH

Central defender who netted

six goals in 105 league games

and was loaned back to Crystal

Palace before joining Margate in

July 1978, then had spells with

Millwall and Andover. Became

a driving instructor, then ran

his own building firm and has

since coached football in South

London schools.

DAVID PEACH

Left-back (pictured) who helped

win the FA Cup in 1976 and

was a League Cup Finalist in

1979, scoring 34 goals in 224

league outings prior to joining

Swindon Town in March 1980.

Later with Orient and Andover,

he managed Wellworthy

Athletic, Christchurch and

Lymington Town, working in

the building trade.

JIM McCALLIOG

Former Scotland international

midfielder who netted eight

goals in 72 league games for

Saints prior to joining Chicago

Sting in April 1977, then played

for Lincoln City. Later managed

Runcorn and Halifax Town and

has since been a publican in

Wetherby, York and Fenwick,

Ayrshire.

HUGHIE FISHER

Experienced midfielder who

was a non-playing substitute

in Saints’ 1976 FA Cup Final

triumph, netting seven goals in

302 league games while at The

Dell before joining Southport

as player-boss in March 1977.

Later with Basingstoke and

Waterlooville, he became a

brewery rep in Southampton.

TED MacDOUGALL

Scotland international striker

who helped win promotion in

1977/78 and scored 42 times

in 86 league games prior to

rejoining AFC Bournemouth in

November 1978. Reunited with

Alan Ball at Blackpool, then

scouted for him at Portsmouth,

since holding coaching posts in

the United States.

MICK CHANNON

England international striker

who moved to Manchester City

in July 1977, rejoining Saints in

September 1979. Netted a club

record 185 goals in 511 league

games overall, then played

for Newcastle United, Bristol

Rovers, Norwich City and

Portsmouth. Now a horse-racing

trainer at West Ilsley.

PETER OSGOOD

Ex-England international

striker who scored 28 times

in 126 league outings before

joining Philadelphia Fury in

December 1977, then returned

to Chelsea. Later a Windsor

publican and Portsmouth youth

coach, he was a matchday host

at Chelsea and Southampton

and died in March 2006.
