MASTERS OF SCALE
Hosted by LinkedIn co-founder
Reid Hoffman, each episode of Masters of
Scale tests Hoffman’s theories, which explain
how successful entrepreneurs take their
companies “from zero to a gazillion”. It’s
presented as an entertaining detective story,
unravelling these theories with guests like
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
EXPONENT
Ben Thompson, author of business/tech
blog Stratechery, talks tech and society along
with writer James Allworth. Recent episodes
have discussed Spotify’s financial position,
Google and ad blockers, and how Apple
monetises its user base.

politics, and examines
current events. Featured

former Twitter CEO Dick
Costolo and bitcoin billionaires,
the Winklevoss twins.
A US start-up is offering a chance for immortality
- in a sense, at any rate. Nectome is attempting
to commercialise a process in which the brain is
preserved by vitrification, essentially being turned
to glass. It’s been trialled on rabbits thus far, and the
company hopes to be able to upload preserved
brains to the cloud. There are two catches, however.
One, it doesn’t currently have a method of uploading
or reviving the brain; and two, since all the blood in
the brain must be replaced with embalming
chemicals, you kind of have to be dead to undergo
the procedure or, more accurately, the procedure
has to be the cause of death to ensure successful
preservation of the brain.
