The bracket and ball joint assembly is
lifted off. Now theA-frame arms’
forward bushescan be checked. Mating
faces on the arms and diff are cleaned up.

No playcan be detected in the old
ball joint, but thegaitor protecting
the joint has hardened with age and is split
in several places.

Now that the axlecannot tip, it’s safe
to remove the ball joint nut and
washer and thetwo bolts holding the
fulcrum bracket to the A-frame arms.

Now, the nuts andwashers are
removed from thetwo bolts holding
the fulcrum bracket in theA-frame, but the
bolts are left in placefor the moment.

We now support the nose of the diff,
jacking it slightly until thestud of the
ball joint will move freely up and down in
its axle bracket.

A drift and hammer is usedto drive
the stud of the ball joint upward to
loosen it from the diff. The nutstays on
for no w.
Bolt threads

Looking from the front, the fulcrum
bracket is held between the armsby
two bolts. They’re wire brushed andeasing
oil is applied before dismantling.
Castellated

While theeasing oilsoaks in, the split
pin is withdrawn from thecastellated
nut which holds the jointto the mounting
bracket on the diff.
Alignment

Socket and extension must be
vertically aligned with nut when
releasing.This shoulderedsocket avoids
the hump in axlecasing. Nut left on loosely.
