Vertical and toothpick bond test(photo 12)
Once again the 3425 bond appeared stronger than that of the 9462 in
this test. As can be seen in the photo, the toothpick glue base came
away entirely in the 9462 sample, whilst I had to break it free from the
3425 one. I also found that the vertical section had a stronger bond

This test surprised me! The toothpick glued with 3425 broke with the
glue remaining bonded to the Lexan, while the 9462 toothpick came
away complete with the glue....this was completely unexpected.Cutting test(photo 14)
I was able to cut both, but the 3425 seemed harder.12

Crush test(photo 15)
In this test I took one cured drop of each glue and crushed one
against the other using pliers: the 9462 sample failed first.Summary of results
At the end I think we can summarise the results as follows:9462 pros- White colour (may be preferable)
- Lower specific weight (but the difference is tiny given the small quan-
tities used by modellers)
9462 cons- Hard to find in Europe
- More expensive than 3425
3425 pros- Easier to find in Europe
- Cheaper than 9462 (from 3 to 5 Euros difference for each 50 ml
cartridge) - Same or greater toughness and strength compared to 9462
3425 cons- Yellowish-light grey colour (possibly some will find this unattractive,
however I think it’s nicer on carbon!) - Higher specific weight (but again this is minimal given the small
quantities used by modellers)
Conclusions
Hysol 3425 is a great glue and it’s certainly not a second best choice
when compared to 9462; on the contrary, it seems every bit as strong,
whilst having better adhesion and resistance to being cut or crushed.
I prefer the colour, but that’s just a personal choice. The price differen-
ce is small, I know, but if you build a lot it soon adds up....!
I don’t know if Hysol 9462 is easy to find in your country, but even if it
