There comes a point when the only way you can possibly make your plate carrier any more Gucci
is by adding more plate carrier, and that’s what the Tyr Tactical plate carrier does. The Lower
Abdominal Panel is designed to be used by breaches or direct action operatives in the real world
that need rapid access to specialist gear, or alternative up-armouring of their soft, exposed bellies.
Since plate carriers became smaller, more compact and higher cut, they have ridden well above
the belly button and only protect the vital organs of the wearer. With the Abdomen Panel, you
claw back some of the protection over the lower abdominal region again. Only available direct
from Tyr, the panel houses your choice of a simple stiffened filling, perfect for those that
simply desire more room to attach gear. The panel simply Velcro’s into place and is ideally
situated when sandwiched between the closures of the plate pocket itself, alternatively it
can be mounted between the cummerbund wraps and the front flap closure on most modern
armour carriers. Two adjustable straps adjust the hang height to give the wearer the optimal
fit and flexibility when sitting or moving. The purpose of the panel isn’t just armouring
though and it serves equally usefully as an additional, easily accessible position to add
critical hardware. In fact in the configuration shown here, elastic shock cord gives an easily
ambidextrously accessible mount for a tourniquet. Alternatively MOLLE webbing allows you
to fix a pouch of your choice.
It’s almost like a tactical bum bag or fanny pack- as our friends across the pond would call it.
