PREPARATION AND CUTTING

1

From the white tone-on-tone
fabric, cut:

  • One square, 11in (appliqué
    background)

  • Four strips,^77 ⁄ 8 in across the (21in)
width of the fabric. Trim two strips to

(^7) ⁄ 8 x10 (^3) ⁄ 4 in and two strips to (^7) ⁄ 8 x11 (^1) ⁄ 2 in
(Border 2).
2
From the assorted print fabrics, cut:

  • 12 squares, 3in (Border 3)

  • Eight rectangles, 3 x 3^1 ⁄ 2 in (Border 3)

  • Two strips, 1^1 ⁄ 8 x9^1 ⁄ 2 in (Border 1)

  • Two strips, 1^1 ⁄ 8 x10^3 ⁄ 4 in (Border 1).
(Yvonne used a different print fabric
for each side of Border 1.)

3

From the pink stripe fabric, cut:

  • One strip, 12^1 ⁄ 2 in across the width
of the fabric and crosscut two
    rectangles, 12^1 ⁄ 2 x17^1 ⁄ 2 in (cushion back).

4

Trace the appliqué shapes from
the Pattern Sheet onto the paper
side of the fusible web, leaving about

(^1) ⁄ 2 in between the shapes. Cut them
out roughly. Don't fuse the shapes
to the fabrics just yet: some
construction needs to take place
on some of the shapes fi rst.
APPLIQUÉ
5
Select a fabric for the pram hood
(Yvonne used a pink and white
check) and cut a 4in square from it.
With right sides together, machine
stitch the cotton lace to one edge of
the square, as shown in Diagram 1.
Press the lace away from the square
with the seam towards the square
and topstitch close to the folded edge
of the fabric.
6
Position the fusible-web pram
hood shape on the wrong side of
the square with the marked edge on
the edge of the fabric, not under the
lace. Fuse it in place. Cut out the
hood shape on the line.
7
For the top edge of the pram, cut a
strip of plain pink fabric, 1 x 6^1 ⁄ 2 in.
Fold it in half, wrong sides together
and long edges matching, and press.
8
From a floral print fabric, cut:

  • One rectangle, 4^1 ⁄ 2 x6^1 ⁄ 2 in
    (pram body).

9

With raw edges matching and right
sides together, stitch the folded
pink strip to one long edge of the
pram body rectangle. Press the seam
towards the fl oral fabric and topstitch
the seam. Refer to Diagram 2.

10

Trim the straight edge of the
fusible-web pram body shape
on the long horizontal line. Position
the fusible-web shape on the wrong
side of the rectangle with the cut
straight edge matching the top of the
folded fabric strip. Fuse it in place and
cut the pram body shape out on the line.

YVONNE’S
CUSHION TIPS
I like the cushion to be a snug fit
around the insert. I make my cover
finish just a fraction smaller than
the insert size instead of exactly the
same measurement. Quilting the
cushion back using lightweight
batting such as Pellon also gives
a better fit and finish to the cover
than fabric alone.
