Fuse the remaining fusible-
web shapes to the wrong side
of your selected fabrics. Yvonne used
a dark brown print for the wheels,

a light brown print for the handle
and assorted fabrics for the four
hearts. Cut them out on the lines.

12

Put the appliqué mat or baking
paper over the complete design
on the Pattern Sheet. Arrange the
shapes for the pram on the mat,
aligning them with the lines on the
Pattern Sheet and overlapping the
shapes as required. Position the wheel
rim shapes, but not the central hubs

  • these are attached later. When you’re
happy with the position of the shapes,
fuse them together with a hot iron.

13

When the shapes have cooled,
carefully peel the assemblage
from the appliqué mat or baking
paper. Position it, glue side down,
so that the left edge of the hood and
pram body are 1^11 ⁄ 4 in inside the left
edge of the white background fabric.
Fuse it in place.

14

Fuse a square of stabiliser
behind the design. Thread
the top of the machine with a colour
to match one of the fabrics and put
bobbin thread in the bobbin. Set up
the machine for blanket stitch about
2.5 x 2.5mm in size. (If you don’t have
that stitch, you could use a 2 x 2mm
zigzag stitch or blanket stitch by
hand with one strand of matching
embroidery thread.)

15

Work blanket stitch by
machine around all the shapes
using threads to match the fabrics.
Aim to have the straight part of the
stitch sitting along the edge of the
fabric shape with the horizontal bites
going into the appliqué fabric. To
turn curves, stop with the needle

down on the outside of the shape,
lift the foot and rotate the fabric a
small amount each time. For corners,
just rotate it once 90 degrees. Yvonne
added radiating lines of triple straight
stitch on the pram hood to indicate
fold lines.

16

For the spokes of the wheels,
use the same thread colour as
for the wheels and set the machine
for triple straight stitch if you have
it. Sew the four lines across the
space, then appliqué the hubs to
the centres, covering where the lines
cross. Set the blanket stitch size
to 2 x 2mm for the hubs and hearts.

17

Position the four hearts as
shown in the photograph
and appliqué them in place. Yvonne
recommends leaving the
backstitching of the string until after
the quilting so it is uppermost.

18

Remove the stabiliser by tearing
it away gently from the back of
the work. Take the thread ends to the
back and tie them off neatly. Trim the
appliqué panel to measure 9^1 ⁄ 2 in square
with the design centred.

FRONT ASSEMBLY

19

For Border 1, sew the 1^1 ⁄ 8 x9^1 ⁄ 2 in
print fabric strips to the top and
bottom edges of the appliqué panel
and press the seams outwards. Then
join the 1^1 ⁄ 8 x10^3 ⁄ 4 in strips to the left
and right edges and press as before.

20

Sew the^7 ⁄ 8 x10^3 ⁄ 4 in white strips
to the top and bottom edges
and the^7 ⁄ 8 x11^1 ⁄ 2 in white strips to
the left and right edges, pressing
the seams towards Border 1 this time.
