some exciting football against West
Bromwich Albion in the Premier
League Cup last weekend. The
game ended in a 2-2 draw which is
not enough to see us into the
knockout stages of the competition
but, nevertheless, the players were
exposed to different opposition
during the group stages and will
have learnt from the games.
They have also played Carmarthen
and Risca in the Welsh
Development League and will face
Newport County in the quarter-
finals of the Welsh Youth Cup. Their
next fixture is against Arsenal at
home, before they face Chesterfield
in the FA Youth Cup.
The under-16s also played West
Brom in their last game, where a
very young squad mainly
consisting of under-15 players
battled well before eventually
losing. This is a difficult time for
some of our under-16 players, as
they will soon learn their fate
regarding their scholarship offers
for this season.
The pressure they are under is
sometimes evident in their
performances, and we are fully
aware of the support and patience
that these young men need at this
time.
Our under-14s continue to be
involved in the Albert Phelan trophy
and are progressing very well. Our
next fixture is against Wolves and
this result could determine our
progress in the competition.
Meanwhile, the under-15s are going
well in the Premier League
Floodlight Cup, beating Cardiff City
2-0 last time out to advance to the
next round of the competition.
Both our youth and foundation
phase age groups have been very
busy during the past weeks with
games coming thick and fast. We
have become involved in far more
festivals and tournaments this
season. These festivals are a great
opportunity for our players to
access the maximum amount of
game-time when they are travelling
long distances and help develop
their social skills in the process.
As explained previously, our playershave to adapt to the travelling
involved within the Category One
programme and, to support this
travelling, we are delivering
workshops on nutrition and
hydration to ensure the players are
in the best possible condition to
play after a long journey.
Again, a big thank you to the
parents who travel around the
country to support their children
and the academy, as it is a big
commitment and one we fully
appreciate.
Finally, we are still looking for host
families for our scholars for the
forthcoming season. The families
play an integral role in the care and
welfare of our players and if
anybody is interested in hosting
please contact Tony Thomas
([email protected]) at
the Landore academy or Rebeca
Storer
([email protected]) at
the Liberty Stadium.Enjoy the game this afternoon.LEE TRUNDLE WITH UNDER-13S
