05: DESIGN MOUNT LAWLEY HOUSE
LOCATION MOUNT LAWLEY, PERTH
In a deliberate move that separates working
spaces from living spaces, the home offi ce of
this inner-city residence is contained on the
ground level. Challenged by a small, odd-
shaped lot, the homeowner and architect,
Simone Robeson, created a low-maintenance,
highly fl exible design that refl ects the living
and working needs of the occupants. Inspired
by the Japanese aesthetic, the interior space
echoes a luxurious minimalism that borders
on stark. A long built-in desk runs from wall to
wall, off ering a host of working space. Natural
light is pulled into the area via a waterfall
skylight that hovers over the staircase leading
into the offi ce, while a long transom window
set high on the wall allows in light over the
desk area — but without distracting views.

06: DESIGN NORTHCOTE HOUSE
LOCATION NORTHCOTE, VICTORIA
Tucked into a nook off the main living room,
this home offi ce features a wall of upper
cabinets painted the same charcoal colour
as the wall, helping them blend seamlessly
into the background. Another clever storage
option, in the form of a lowline series of
cabinets, sits at fl oor level and serves to keep
the offi ce uncluttered as well as creating
a subtle division between the living and
working spaces. The Scandi-style desk off ers
plenty of work space without dominating the
room, and the open-plan layout keeps the
offi ce accessible to the rest of the living areas,
allowing the homeowners to keep an eye on
the kids when work calls.
