08: DESIGN FIELD HOUSE
LOCATION BRIGHTON, VICTORIA
Architect Robert Puksand sought to create
a happy house, one infused with warmth,
life and a sense of playfulness. “Translating
happiness to a house means it can’t be too
serious and needs to create delight,” says
Robert. There is plenty to bring joy and
enchantment in this stylish open-plan home.
There’s a spacious living area, with glass
doors that open up to the expansive outdoor
space, with lots of glass and ample light. A
circular glass wall is a feature — you can catch
glimpses of the indoor dining space. Outside,
a rectangular swimming pool sits comfortably
in the backyard with dual overstuff ed chairs.

09: DESIGN NORTHCOTE HOUSE
LOCATION NORTHCOTE, VICTORIA
This Melbourne home required a renovation
when a family of two became a family of six,
plus Gravy the cat. Two bedrooms needed
to somehow morph into four and there was a
need for common spaces, and also additional
privacy. “We were inspired by the feeling
of holidaying in a pitched tent in the bush,
looking out to native trees and shrubs while
being showered in light and fresh air,” says
architect Sally Timmins. As the family sits
outdoors in their alfresco space, they can see
the roofl ine of the house, which does replicate
the pitch of a tent, albeit a very stylish and
well-designed one. Flowing grasses and rustic
plants add a whimsical note to the outdoor
space that is connected to the home through
large glass sliders.
