10: DESIGN CATALINA HOUSE
LOCATION AVALON BEACH,
NEW SOUTH WALES
UK fi rm pH+ Architects has transformed a
tiny bungalow into a fi ve-bedroom home that
has ample living spaces and retains a sense of
connectedness to nature. Says Drew Hamilton
from pH+: “The project incorporates large
sections of the building that open to the exterior
setting, ensuring greenery is in close proximity
at all times.” The living and dining spaces seem
to melt into the landscape — rarely are indoor-
outdoor spaces blurred with such fi nesse.

11: DESIGN ROZELLE HOUSE
LOCATION ROZELLE, NEW SOUTH WALES
This modernist three-bedroom home sits in
the place of a derelict worker’s cottage that
was demolished on the site. Making the most
of the view was a pivotal part of the design.
“It was important to maximise the amount
of natural light and view Easton Park from
all living areas,” says homeowner Anthony
Andreatta. It’s set back 13 metres from the
street, with tiered gardens and laneway
access. On the ground fl oor, the living space
opens to a timber wraparound deck in one
area, and an alfresco dining space in another.
