The mob of curious cows that were drawn to our campfire one
night, literally like moths to a flame. I wandered away from camp
for the usual chat to a tree only to find 100 odd glowing eyes not
meters away belonging to a big mob of very curious cows. Friendly
bunch of bovines, probably keen on getting warm and we couldn’t
blame them.

Perhaps one of the hardest looking 4WD tracks I’ve ever poked
my nose up. Many a local will know the one I’m talking about, no
longer open thanks to track closures and named Sunset; this was a
track of serious consequence and not something to tackle at 2pm on
a rainy Wednesday.

The massive fires that swept through this area just days after we
had finished filming. Sadly a huge expanse of forest was lost and
to date we are not sure of the state of the tracks in the Bunyip area.
This is in addition to the 2009 fires that devastated this region.
Hopefully the region will be ok and 4WDers plus others can get back
in and enjoy a magic part of the country.

Bunyips. Yep the area is named after the mythical Aussie legend,
the bunyip, which is supposed to hang out by the Bunyip River
that flows through the area...do you believe?

Track grading happens out this way fairly regularly and we
managed to time our arrival at one very notorious section of hill
literally as the graders were finishing the top section. We got chatting
to the operators and yep, we’d just missed what was a true A grade
climb. Judging by the recovery marks on the trees up the hill they
were spot on.
