LIZARD ISLAND, QLD
Barefoot luxury
THE SCENE... The staff are too
classy to drop names, but be assured
Lizard Island on the Great Barrier
Reef is a mainstay for visiting A-listers.
After two cyclones, the resort was
brought back to life with a beach-chic
refurbishment by Melbourne studio
Hecker Guthrie across 40 rooms
and villas. Prices are in the vicinity
of $2500 per night (all-inclusive),
which affords privacy and pampering.
EAT AND DRINK... Chef Mark
Jensen crafts a vibrant menu from
fresh North Queensland produce.
For lunch, the resort will prepare a
hamper for you to take to a secluded
beach in your own private dinghy.
TREAT YOURSELF... The
Essentia Day Spa is the go-to for
relaxation. Book in for a facial using
La Biosthetique’s natural skincare.
DON’T MISS... Snorkelling on^
the Great Barrier Reef is one of life’s
bucket list experiences. At high tide
the famous giant clam gardens –
which grow up to two metres among
the coral – can be accessed from the
shore. By boat, head to Cod Hole,
one of the reef ’s world-famous spots,
to swim with giant tame potato cod.
NEED TO KNOW... The only^
way onto the island is by private
charter plane from Cairns. The
bird’s-eye view of the reef will take
your breath away, but factor in the
cost ($700 per person return).
