Cut each of the shapes out of
fusible web roughly. Fuse the
web, glue side down, on the wrong
side of the selected print fabrics. Cut
the shapes out carefully on the lines.
If your table is significantly larger
than a card table, you might want
to add some extra appliqué motifs
or space them differently.

Assembly

8

For the windows, rule a square,
1111 ⁄ 2 in with a pencil on the wrong
side of two of the exterior wall
rectangles, positioned as shown
in Diagram 2.

9

Measure in^1 ⁄ 4 in from each side
of the square and draw a second
square. This one will measure 11in.
Cut the fabric on this smaller square.

10

Peel the backing paper from
the appliqué shapes. Arrange
them on each of the five panels,
making sure the shapes are at least

11 ⁄ 2 in away from the top, bottom and
side edges and layering them in the
correct order. When you’re happy
with the placement, iron the shapes
to fuse them all in place.

11

Thread the sewing machine
with navy thread and sew
around all the appliqué shapes about
3mm (^1 ⁄ 8 in) from the edges with
straight stitch. The dark-coloured
thread helps to make the shapes
stand out. (Sarah and Rachel say that
black thread would also work well.
They also suggest using zigzag stitch
or blanket stitch if you prefer that
look.) Use a pencil or fabric-marking
pen to copy the lines for the bird’s
legs, the cat’s whiskers and the dog’s
muzzle on to the fabric, then stitch
them in the same thread.

12

Pin each exterior panel,
right sides together, with
a corresponding interior panel, and
Diagram 2 sew around the side and bottom
