Preparation and cutting

1

From the spot print fabric, cut:

  • One square, 34^11 ⁄ 2 in (roof).

2

From the aqua pinstripe fabric, cut:

  • Four strips, 28^1 ⁄ 2 in across the width
of the fabric. Trim three of them to
    35x28^1 ⁄ 2 in (exterior walls). Crosscut
the fourth strip to yield two rectangles,
    281 ⁄ 2 x 19in (front door panels).

3

Repeat Step 2 with the red floral
print fabric (interior of wall and
door panels).

4

From large scraps of print fabrics, cut:

  • Two pairs of rectangles, 5 x 13in
    (windowpanes)

  • Two strips, 2^1 ⁄ 2 x 15in from different
    fabrics (door ties).

5

Refer to Rachel and Sarah’s Fusible
Web Economy Tip first to determine
whether to cut the centre out of the
fusible-web shapes. Trace the appliqué
shapes from both sides of the Pattern
Sheet onto the paper side of the fusible
web, leaving about^1 ⁄ 2 in between them.

6

Use the compass to draw circles
on the fusible web with:

  • a radius of 1^1 ⁄ 8 in (diameter of 2^1 ⁄ 2 in)
for the centres of the large daisies on
the Door and Bird panels (draw 2)

  • a radius of 1^3 ⁄ 8 in (diameter of 2^3 ⁄ 4 in)
for the centre of the red flower on the
    Cat panel

  • a radius of 1^1 ⁄ 2 in (diameter of 3in)
for the centres of the circle flowers
on the Door and Bird panels (draw 2)

  • a radius of 3in (diameter of 6in) for
the middle petals of the circle flowers
on the Door and Bird panels (draw 2)

  • a radius of 3^3 ⁄ 4 in (diameter of 7^1 ⁄ 2 in)
for the outer petals of the circle flowers
on the Door and Bird panels (draw 2).
You also need to draw a circle with a
    radius of 6^3 ⁄ 4 in (diameter of 13^1 ⁄ 2 in) for
the tree foliage on the dog panel. As
this is too large for most compasses,
improvise as follows: cut a long strip
of cardboard about 1in wide. Pierce
a small hole^1 ⁄ 2 in from one end and

another, slightly larger, hole 6^3 ⁄ 4 in away
from it. Working on a cutting mat or
surface that you can pierce, put a pin
through the small hole in the end of the
cardboard and then through the fusible
web. Insert the point of a pencil in the
other hole and hold the pin while you
move the cardboard around with the
pencil to draw the circle on the fusible
web. See Diagram 1.
