“We have always been focused
on reducing injuries, so prevention
is just part of our make-up in
the Wallabies training program.”
Masters says. “Identifying athletic
weakness or dysfunction, putting
a plan in place that rectifies, and
then testing that athlete again
is key to performance training.
Maximising the time on the training
field of every player will result
in performance increases both
individually and as a team.”
Recovery is also extremely
important, with the team’s mantra
being: “Train hard, recover harder.”
As part of this, nutrition is a huge
component of recovery, as well
as preparation for the gruelling
series of games ahead.
“Eating very clean, unprocessed
foods, focusing on the specific
requirements of each athlete,
is the key,” Masters says. As
for supplements: “The process
of ergogenically improving the
results of an athlete in training and
performance is the key component
here. Identifying the supplements
that each athlete needs to do
this is the challenge and skill our
nutritionists have with our athletes.”
Beyond training, nutrition and
adequate recovery is one last key
element – determination. It will be
a very determined green and gold
squad heading into the Wallabies vs.
England test series with a shared
goal: to prove the doubters wrong
and send Eddie Jones and his Red
& Whites back home to Old Blighty
with their tails between their legs.
