If it’s coastal views you’re after, look no further
than this scenic bike ride around the Isle of
Wight, just o England’s south coast. Taking
in cycle paths, bridleways and country roads,
the Round the Island Route circumnavigates
the entire island, and is perfect for either
a day ride (for more experienced cyclists) or
a multi-day trip (for newbies). The route is
undulating but not too gruelling, with a fun
descent thrown in. If you’re up for a challenge,
you can cycle there and back in one day.

Tackle It:
1 Take the hovercraft: The fast ferry, that
is, from Portsmouth to Isle of Wight. Not only
is it quite cheap, but it takes just 10 minutes.
Plus, it makes you feel like James Bond –
and that’s before you even get on the bike.
2 Slip, slop, slap: The Isle of Wight has its
own microclimate and the weather can be really
changeable, so always slap on some sunscreen.
3 Carry some coin: It would be rude not to
treat yourself to an ice-cream and enjoy the sea
views – especially if you’re riding back as well.
