Base your Kangaroo Island peregrinations out of the haute Southern
Ocean Lodge for three days during Southern World Australia’s nine-
day tour of South Australia. The tour also visits Adelaide and Flinders
Range. Guided activities on KI include a visit to a fur seal colony,
wallaby and koala spotting, and a naturalist-led walk to one of the
continent’s largest sea lion colonies. (^)

Hit the Dunes
Sun-kissed golden dunes roll as far as the
eye can see, perfect for photography, sand-
boarding or tobogganing, or a sunset safari
on quad bikes. Expect to see a kangaroo.
Find Seclusion in a Sandy Cove
Some 25 miles northwest of Kingscote,
Stokes Bay is famous for pure sands, tran-
quil rock pools, and a coastal hamlet that
attracts families for its shady picnic and
campground facilities. The must-do activity:
Walk through a rock corridor to reach the
isolated retreat of the shoreline.
See the Light
Lighthouses became an important addition
to KI when sailors realized how treacherous
the stretch separating it from the mainland
was. As a result, there are three historic
beacons on the island; each offers a pictur-
esque backdrop for photos.
Don’t Miss the Roos
A private tour of the bush will ensure
you get your fill of the island’s
celebrated marsupials – plus an
enchilada lunch alfresco.
