WHEN YOU STARTED ON DANCE
ACADEMY DID YOU EVER DREAM
IT WOULD LEAD TO THIS?
When I first started in the TV series, I didn’t
imagine we would get past the first season!
This doesn’t feel like real life, it’s amazing
and has taken me completely by surprise.
ARE YOU SIMILAR TO YOUR
CHARACTER TARA?
I am so much like Tara. She’s a bit stubborn
and I’m a little bit stubborn. She’s a bit naïve
at times, and I can be too. She has foot-in-
mouth syndrome – that’s also me, and
we’re both so determined.

a long time because everyone has been
living in different places and doing amazing
things. When I was a teenager they were like
my family; I grew up with them and they
helped make me who I am, so going back
and seeing them again was special.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE
SCENE TO FILM?
I would have to say it was a really
challenging dance scene that I actually
struggled with at the time. Tara is
performing a solo and it’s one of the most
beautiful pieces of choreography, but I had
to dance and act at the top of my range.
I hated it while I was filming it but after
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT
TAR A’S JOU RN EY I N TH E F I LM?
After the series, she had issues with her body
and she’s trying to figure out what to do
next, now that she’s no longer at school and
her life isn’t laid out for her. She has to find
her own way and see how far she’s willing
to go to get what she wants. I think it’s
a journey we all go through when we leave
school or university. You have to figure out
your own way and it can be really hard.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE FILMING
IN NEW YORK?
I can’t really put it into words – it was
so insane. The city just provided such an
exciting backdrop for the film. For one scene
they found this wonderful rooftop and it
had the most incredible vista across the
city, I almost couldn’t concentrate because
I was so mesmerised by the view.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE CATCHING UP
WITH EVERYONE ON SET AGAIN?
That was one of the biggest highlights for
me. I hadn’t seen a lot of the guys for such
When we found out Dance Academy was being made
into a movie we legit lost our chill. So you can imagine how
psyched we were to chat to the stars of the film!
Xenia Goodwin, seen here on the
movie set of Dance Academy,
is brutally honest about what is
involved in playing the role of Tara.
