Australasian Dirt Bike — September 2017

(nextflipdebug5) #1

WITH MOST OF my mods
done on the TE300, I decided
that I would go back to my
roots and get some racing
under my belt. There was a
NSW state enduro at Dungog
and the second round of the
Oyster Bay/Nowra MCC South
Coast Enduro series.
I had been trying to get a
bunch of riding in before
these two events to make sure
I had my head in the right
mind frame and I felt like my
prep was good. I chucked on a
fresh set of Pirelli Mid Soft
tyres, gave her a fresh round
of Bel-Ray oils and fi tted new
Trelleborg heav y-duty tub es.

Now, yes, most riders would
run mousse tubes for an
enduro, but I have been riding
on tubes all year and really
like the feel of them. Mousses
are great, obviously, as you
don’t get fl ats, but they have a
‘dead’ feel and because I am
not riding as much these days,
tubes are just easier.
First up, Dungog. I hadn’t
done a proper, card-carrying
enduro in a while and was
pretty excited. Conditions were
primo and the club did a great
job setting two great Tests and
a tough trail.
I had a ball all weekend, and
I was super stoked to get a

third outright on one of the
days. The bike was perfect, I
couldn’t fault it.
Next was Nowra. Like the
fi rst round, there were two
sprint loops and prime racing
conditions to match. How
good is winter?
The dirt never dries out and
never gets dusty. After 10
sprints, I managed to get
myself another win and won
all but one Test. And just like
Dungog, the bike was perfect
and I had a blast.
So, what’s next you might
ask? Well, the bike has around
50 hours on it now and I want
to pull it down and throw a set

of rings in. I doubt it actually
needs them, but that’s what I
have always done at the
50-hour mark.
Other than that, I have
signed up to race the next
125cc Gold Cup races in the
MX Nats, so I will be off-
loading the TE300 for a few
weeks to my old man for his
thoughts. I’m a bit worried
though, as he and all his trail
mates do a bunch of extreme
stuff that I apparently “can’t
handle” so It will be a good
test for the TE. Just
remember, Dad, break it, you
pay for it!
