to make the projects

everything you need to know

Make these gorgeous ornaments and mix with bought decorations for an extra-special look!

Make it rustic

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW
Rustic house
Gather your supplies
House with LED lights; gold glitter
cardstock; Helmar Super-Tac Glue;
small oval branch chips; paintbrush;
aluminium foil baking tray; white glitter

Here’s how
STEP 1 Trace then transfer star
of house onto glitter card. Cut
out star and glue it in place.
STEP 2 Starting at bottom of
each gable, and allowing for an
overhang at bottom edge, glue
rows of branch chips across roof.

Overlap previous rows of chips as
you work up the roof. Finish last row
even with rooftop. Let glue set.
STEP 3 Working with 1 gable at a
time, apply a scallop-like thick line of
glue at bottom of each branch chip.
Allow glue to tack off slightly then,
working over tray, sprinkle glitter on
top and shake off excess. Apply glue
on fascia and base of house. Sprinkle
with glitter and shake off excess.

Felt tree
Gather your supplies
Scrap cardstock; scissors; washable
fabric marker; stiff felt in greens and
brown; Arbee wooden dowel rods;
Helmar Super-Tac Glue; branch
offcuts (discs), about 7mmH x 35mm-
dia.; drill; drill bit to suit rod dia.

Here’s how
STEP 1 Photocopy Felt tree diagram;
stick to card; cut shape along outline.
STEP 2 Use marker and trace this tree
template 12 times on felt. Cut trees.
STEP 3 Cut dowel to desired tree
height. Working around dowel, glue
straight edge of each felt tree to dowel.

Aim for no visible gap between each.
NOTE: Allow tree tip to extend beyond
dowel end, about 8mm. Let glue set.
STEP 4 Drill hole through centre of
branch disc. Slip dowel into hole.

DASHER AND DANCER
Bark deer
Gather your supplies
Melaleuca bark; raw standing reindeer,
in wood or cork; all-purpose sealer;
paintbrushes; artist’s acrylic to match
bark; tacky white glue; old scissors

Here’s how
NOTES: 1. Before you begin, strip
a few sheets of bark (about A4 size)
peeling from trunk of a melaleuca tree.

  1. Melaleuca bark is made up of many
    layers. As you glue, top layers of bark
    may lift. Glue them together as you go.
    STEP 1 Seal then paint reindeer (front,
    back and stand); let dry after each coat.
    STEP 2 It’s easier to work in sections,
    cutting bark into manageable sizes
    then butting pieces together. Apply
    glue to reindeer front then press bark
    on top, letting it extend beyond edges.
    Repeat until entire reindeer front
