ENCHANTED WOOD
Gather your supplies
Kaisercraft 12 x 12in cardstock in Fern
(green) and Ivory; scalpel or Brother
ScanNCut and Standard Tack Adhesive
Mat (see Note); cutting board;
hammer; panel pin; tapestry needle;
stranded cotton in green or ecru

Here’s how
NOTE: You can hand-cut your trees or
use the Brother ScanNCut. Using ivory
with green gives trees a snowy effect.
STEP 1 Photocopy to enlarge tree
diagram to size (or as desired).
STEP 2 If cutting by hand, trace design
onto card; use scalpel to cut design.
Or, scan and save diagram into your
ScanNCut, following manufacturer’s
instructions. Once diagram is saved,
you can create multiple trees within
the cutting area. Cut 3 trees in total.
STEP 3 Stack cut trees then fold trees
in half (foldline is the stitching line).
STEP 4 Place tree stack onto cutting
board and, using hammer and panel
pin, carefully punch holes along
foldline through all 3 trees. Stitch
trees together with 6 strands of
cotton. Fan out ‘tree’ and stand it.

SANTA’S LITTLE HELPERS
Gather your supplies
Pine cones, medium and small;
branch offcuts (discs), about 35mm
dia.; flat beads, 15mm dia. (toddler/
baby feet); round wood beads,
35mm, 20mm and 15mm (adult/
toddler/baby); hot-glue gun and
glue sticks; artist’s acrylic paints in
brown and white; small liner brush;
felt in cream, grey and blues; Helmar
450 Quick Dry Adhesive; Cotton
Perle embroidery cotton; general
sewing supplies; small pompoms or
10mm gold folley bells; decorative
sequins, stars, flowers and cups

Here’s how
STEP 1 Hot-glue pointy end of each
pine cone to centre of an offcut disc
so pine cone stands upright. For
toddler and baby feet, centre and hot-
glue pine cone base to 2 flat beads.
For head, hot-glue a bead on top.
STEP 2 Using our image as a guide,
paint a face on each bead. When dry,
dot a speck of white paint in each eye.
STEP 3 Photocopy to enlarge Santa’s
helpers’ coats and hats. Note: You may
need to adjust pattern sizes to suit
pine cone size. Cut paper pattern of
coat and hat. Pin patterns on felt then
cut felt. For each adult scarf, cut felt
to measure 2W x 30cmL, 1W x 25cmL
(toddler) and 1W x 15cmL (baby). Snip
a 15mm long fringe across each end.
STEP 4 Test wrap coat around each
pine cone. Coat can cross at the ‘neck’
or the edges can meet. When happy
with placement, use adhesive glue
to attach it around neck. Conceal
join by tying scarf around neck.
STEP 5 Note: Before adhering, test-
fit hat on head; adjust if needed. To
make, whip stitch straight edges of
each hat together. For brim, roll up
bottom edge or make a separate felt
roll and adhere. Hot-glue pompom or
folley bell to tip of each hat. Ensuring
hat join is at centre back, add 5 or 6
evenly-spaced sequins down centre
front or as desired. Attach a ‘button’
sequin where front edges meet.
