1 Roll out the prepared sugarpaste/
modelling paste to 5mm thick.
Cut out and use the reindeer image
from the downloadable template
as a guide for cutting out Rudolph.
Insert the wooden skewer through
the chest and up into the head for
support and set aside to fi rm up.
2 Tear A4 paper lengthways in an
uneven wavy line to create stencils
for the main pattern. Use stencils to
airbrush lines in a fan shape from the
base of the cake, four or fi ve will be
enough. Start airbrushing with blue
at the base, using the torn edge as a
guide. Gently fold the paper over the
edge as you reach the top edge and
continue across the top of the cake.
3 Once lines are complete, dampen
the brush and dab on kitchen paper
to remove most of the moisture.
Use the brush to lightly drag the
colour upwards on each line, starting
in the blue and pulling through to the
white space. Rinse and dab the brush

regularly to prevent a build-up of
colour in the bristles.
4 Change colour to pink and begin
to fi ll in the white spaces on the top
of the cake. It is good practice to
check the colour on a scrap of paper
before painting on your cake. Do the
same with violet leaving some outer
edges, and be careful not to overlap
too much with the blue.
5 Next use green to highlight any
remaining white areas between the
blue lines, and yellow to lighten
the base of the lines at the side of
the cake. Finally, change to black
and airbrush along the bottom of
each blue line then colour round the
remainder of the cake and board.
Gradually build up the thickness of
the black lines until you are happy
with the fi nish.
6 Using the downloadable

template, carefully cut out ‘Believe’
from greaseproof paper with your craft
knife. Use a cutting mat for this or glass
worktop saver, and tape the corners of
paper in place to prevent it moving as
you cut.
7 Add a couple of drops of gold to
the airbrush and stencil on the letters.
Use the sterilised pins to help hold the
stencil in place. Note: metallic paint
is not recommended for use in this
airbrush to paint large areas, and should
be thoroughly cleaned after use.
8 Airbrush Rudolph gold using short
bursts of spray, then add a touch of red
to his nose. Take a small piece of blue
ribbon and tie a bow to the wooden
skewer. Attach the blue ribbon to the
edge of the board with the double-sided
tape, and add your prancing Rudolph to
the top.
