Final run decides RS Feva Champs
e RS Feva Winter Championship at Weymouth and
Portland Sailing Academy had a strong, cold north-
westerly. Out of the blocks well in the tough conditions
were Ben Hutton-Penman and Abi Jayasekara (Corinthian
Otters), who won the rst race. e next two races were
then a high wind master class from Sophie Johnson/Dylan
Collingbourne (Blackwater/Burnham). e wind then
moderated on day two. In the nal deciding race, Tom
Burke and eo Stewart (Windermere School) pipped
both leading boats to the leeward mark for the race win,
handing the winter title to Johnson/Collingbourne. Just a
point behind were Hutton-Penman and Jayasekara in
second overall, with Tom Storey/Rupert Jameson in third.

Winning streak sees
Gillard claim series
West Riding SC hosted the nal event of
the Sail Register-sponsored Streaker
Northern Paddle series in gusty
conditions, completing a 14-event series
of open meetings. e series saw 102
entries with 15 dierent race winners,
with a eet of 24 at the best attended
open meeting at Ripon.
Series victory went to Alan Gillard
(Sheeld Viking), who won at Hornsea,
Elton, Girton and Yeadon, counting
almost entirely rst places. A win at
Scaling Dam for Martin Penty (Beaver)
gave him second overall, while a win at
Beaver SC secured third for Ian Priest
(Scaling Dam). Peter Kitchen (Tees &
Hartlepool) who impressively travelled
to 10 events, was fourth overall.

Uproar wins

Mermaid Trophy
At Guildford Model YC’s water at
Abbey Meads, the Marblehead
Mermaid Trophy open saw a gusty
breeze of variable direction
challenging competitors, with Peter
Stollery (Guildford) and Rob Vice
(Clapham) sailing dierent
congurations of their Uproar designs
to claim rst and second overall.
David Adam (Woking) sailing a
Prime Number design was third.

Musto Ski Inlands

Despite a number of key helms
having their boats half way around
the world en-route to the worlds in
Australia, a 32-strong eet joined the
Ovington classes at Graam Water
for their inland championship. Tight
racing over eight races in 5-10 knot
winds saw seven race winners over the
eight-race series, with close battles
evident all the way through the eet.
Ben McGrane (Netley) proved a clear
winner by showing consistency
across the tricky conditions. Ben
Schooling and Dan Kilsby (Stokes
Bay) rounded o the top three.
Schooling also won the Musto Ski
national circuit for 2017.
