Jeremiah 21-36: A Translation

(^6) For there shall be a day when watchmen will call out
on Mount Ephraim
'Up, let us go to Zion
to Yahweh our Codi'
h) Yahweh Will Return the Remnant oflsrael (31:7-9)
31 7 For thus said Yahweh:
Cry with gladness for Jacob
and scream over The Head of the Nations
Proclaim, praise, and say:
'Yahweh has saved your people
the remnant of Israel!'
(^8) Look I will bring them
from the land of the north
And I will gather them from remote parts of the earth
among them the blind and the lame
the pregnant and woman in labor together
a great assembly shall return here
(^9) With weeping they shall come
and with supplications I will lead them
I will bring them to streams of water
on a level path, in which they will not stumble
For I am as a father to Israel
and Ephraim, my firstborn is he.
i) The One Who Scattered Will Gather (31:10-14)
31 10 Hear the word of Yahweh, nations
and declare among the distant coastlands, and say:
He who scattered Israel will gather him
and will keep him as a shepherd his flock
(^11) For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob
and redeemed him from a hand stronger than his own
(^12) And they shall come and cry for joy on the height of Zion
and they shall be radiant over the goodness of Yahweh
Over the grain and over the wine and over the oil
and over the young of the flocks and the herds
And their soul shall become like a saturated garden
and they shall no longer languish any more
(^13) Then shall the maiden be glad in the dance
yes, young men and old men together
And I will turn their mourning into joy
and I will comfort them
