WINNING GOLF

Set up square to the
target to reduce
margin for error
Settingupopentothetarget,
layingthefaceofyoursand
wedge wide open and then
swinging across the line may
be all well and good if you
spendalotoftimepractising,
but unless you have time to hit
lots of balls, you’re far better
off playing these shots from
a square stance. Stand to the
ball with your feet fairly square
to the target line.

Reduce your
wrist hinge
You’ve probably seen Tour
pros play splash shots with
long,lazyswingsandplenty
of wrist action but there’s
really no need to hinge the
wrists too aggressively from
the sand. Reducing your wrist
action keeps the swing more
compact and helps you
maintain the true loft on the
clubface through impact.

‘Bang’ the
bounce with
afliprelease
Your sand wedge is
built with bounce on
thesole,sonow’sthe
time to use it. Think
about releasing your
handsdownand
through the sand with
ascythingtypemotion
that enables you to
keep the grooves
facing the sky well into
your follow-through.
