Many modellers have experimented with

coloured pencils for weathering models

(with varying degrees of success) but

now AK Interactive has created a new

range of no less than thirty-seven

pencils for the application of weathering

and surface effects to models. They

are quite soft and rather like firm oil-

pastels, but are also water soluble so

can be manipulated on the model, or

removed entirely if a mistake is made.

With colours (including metallics) to

suit pretty much every subject, this set

promises to be extremely versatile and

we will be experimenting with them on

up-coming model projects.

Also new from AK Interactive is a neat

little set of twelve paint mixing dishes

in pressed steel. They are completely

re-usable and therefore have less of an

environmental impact. MN

As ready-made diorama bases go, this is one of the best

we've seen for some time. Cast entirely from grey resin, the

approximately 19.5cm x 12.5cm rectangle's surface is covered

with cobblestones, the front third of which have collapsed,

possibly into a sewer below; hinted at by the presence of an

open manhole cover. It's beautifully sculpted and just requires an

imaginative paint job, which the box-art provides. A very useful

base for a wartime or post-apocalyptic scene.

Also new from Mig Productions is set of superb 1:72 figures that

depict a WW2 British tank crew in winter 'pixie suits', ideal for

use with Revell's excellent 1:72 armour models. MN
