Samantha Giles has had her share of comedy, what with
her character Bernice wrongly thinking her boyfriend
was a crazed killer. But she hopes it won’t all be jolly
japes in the future. ‘I’d like there to be some serious
stories,’ she admits. ‘They work really well with comedy
characters. It’s more poignant when someone who’s
seen as comic has something difficult to deal with.’

ebbie’s dead set on moving to
Scotland to run the garage left
to her and Belle in Lisa’s will.
But how will young Sarah feel about
it? As Debs tries to sell the virtues of
a fresh start, she’s taken aback by her
daughter’s pragmatic response.
Cain is miffed by the move, not
wanting to lose his girl, but there’s a
plus for Charity – she and Vanessa do
a deal to move into Debbie’s cottage.
Vanessa’s thrilled that they’ll finally
have their own place. Little does she
realise, there’s a catch...

Making tracks

W

hile Jai and Priya fear
that the factory fire was
started by Rishi and
Manpreet, the real
culprits, Kerry and Amy, struggle
with a mixture of shock and guilt,
as it hits home that their attempt to
cover up Kerry’s theft of the charity
money has inadvertently led to
death and destruction.
Kerry is initially the stronger
of the two, insisting that they can’t
be sure the tragedy was their fault.
However, when the factory safe
is opened, and the money raised
by the workers for the children’s
cancer unit is found to be missing,
the brunette starts
to crumble.
‘No matter how
thick-skinned
someone is, or
how much trouble
they’ve been in
before, it’s awful
to think you might
be responsible for
something like
that,’ explains
Laura Norton,
who plays Kerry.
‘There are all sorts of ways to deal
with it. There’s denial or wanting to
do the right thing. You’re up, you’re
down, you don’t sleep.’

As Kerry is questioned over
at the police station, she starts
to feel the heat when a perceptive
DI Goldberg discovers a hole in
her story. Desperate to cover her

tracks, Kerry ends up implicating
somebody else.
Returning home, she’s further
rattled when she overhears Amy
almost confess the truth to Nate.
It’s a tense time for mother and
daughter, and when Kerry later
overhears Bernice and Nicola
discuss fundraising, her need
for redemption prompts her to
announce that she’s holding a
charity event of her own.
Amy’s fuming over her mum’s
failure to keep a low profile, but
Kerry marches ahead with her plan.
Will someone smell a rat?

Sinead decides not to attend
Laurie’s trial, but when she
receives a letter from him that
gets her blood boiling, she pays
him a visit in prison. Will her
rapist husband show remorse
for his crimes, or will he continue
to act like the innocent victim?
In need of a distraction, the
nurse later heads off to a music
festival with Lisa, Cleo, Juliet,
Brooke and Ollie. Arriving at
the venue, the group are joined
by Sami, who has been asked
by a worried Diane to keep an
eye on her daughter.
Sinead’s determined to forget
her troubles and, as she parties
the night away, she kisses the
handsome solicitor. But she
doesn’t get the response she

was hoping for, and is so gutted
that she decides to leave and
hitchhike a ride home.
Back in the village, Laurie is
sentenced to four years. As he’s
escorted into a prison van, he
meets another passenger – it’s
Sinead’s rapist brother, Finn!
The pair get talking, and when
Finn twigs who Laurie is, he
lunges at him. As events take
a shock turn, Diane realises
Sinead is in danger, and Sami
makes a desperate bid to save
her. Will he find her in time?
