Borders
- Do not precut the border strips. Measure your quilt,
one border at a time. The numbers are based on having
sewn the block exactly. If your block measurements are
different from mine, measure and use your own num-
bers from this point forward.
2. Nine separate borders will be added to the center
star design. Some borders consist of only 1 fabric, while
others add more fabrics and/or piecing. The piecing con-
sists of 3 small Paw blocks and 17 sawteeth. Borders will
be created and applied in numerical order.

SAWTEETH
You will need 17 sawteeth for 3 partially pieced borders
and 12 additional sawteeth for the 3 small Bear’s Paw
blocks.
- Cut 9 squares 2 ̋ × 2 ̋ from each of 2 fabrics for the
sawteeth borders. This will yield 18 sawteeth; you only
need 17. Pair one square from each fabric and draw a
diagonal line on the wrong side of the lightest square of
each pairing. - Cut 12 squares 2 ̋ × 2 ̋ for the small Bear’s Paw
blocks—6 from the background fabric and 6 from the
paw fabric. Pair one square from each fabric and draw a
diagonal line on the wrong side of the lightest square of
each pairing. - Refer to page 94 to create the A size (1 ̋) sawteeth.
