There are many ways Michiganders
can help the Department of Natural
Resources take care of the state’s
natural and cultural resources.
According to the DNR, several state
parks in southern Michigan will host
stewardship workdays, where volun-
teers are needed to help remove inva-
sive plants that threaten high-quality
ecosystems or to collect native wild-
flower seeds for replanting.
Workdays will take place in the
area at Fort Custer Recreation Area
in Augusta from 10 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, and Sunday.
Sept. 22.

More details about each workday
and how to register can be found on
the DNR volunteer events calendar
at michigan.gov/dnr (under Things to
Do).
In related news, Fort Custer
Recreation Area will be one of the
new locations this fall to host the
DNR’s “Nature Awaits” program,
which allows students and their
families a complimentary, one-day
Recreation Passport voucher to
explore state parks.
More information is available by
emailing DNR-NatureAwaits@
