1999-2009 EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION Continental Federations
On June 11, 2007 in Blumenau, Brazil, national university
sports institutions affiliates of FISU of the American con-
tinent – North, Central and South America – in representa-
tion of 16 different countries, created a non-profit conti-
nental organization called Pan-American University Sports
Organization.
On the basis of the agreement in Blumenau, in August 2007,
23 member countries gathered during the XXIV Universiade
at Bangkok, ratified its Statute and held the first General
Assembly. ODUPA was thus recognized as the appropriate
continental space for permanent interaction and, in turn,
as the adequate tool for coordinating efforts on common
interests, for the development of sports and society, for and
from university students, in the Americas.
Pan-American University Sports Organization
In its spirit, this new supra-regional organization spreads
throughout the Pan-American area, the ideals of university
sports “Friendship, Respect, Intellectual and Moral Solidar-
ity”, in close collaboration with the International University
Sport Federation (FISU) and other Pan-American organiza-
tions, effectively acting as a much needed hub for debat-
ing and agreeing on university sport development policies,
advancing the resulting research and promotion of the
various sports specialties and the training and education
methodologies.
