threemolderingtents.Atthecenterofthecamp,a
scrapofdirtyyellowclothhangsfromacrudewooden
flagpole.

ThiscampwasmadebytheCompanyoftheYellowBanner,
apartyofexplorersthatarrivedinOmuoversixmonthsago.

Characterswhosearchtheareadiscoveramoldy
parchmentcaughtintheliningofoneofthetents;givethe

Development
Ifthecharactersstayatthecampforanhourormore,a
randomlydeterminedRedWizard(see“RedWizardsofThay”)
stumblesuponthem.TheRedWizardisaccompaniedbytwo
mercenariesandissearchingforOmuanshrines.Abattleis
certainunlessthepartyhasstruckupanalliancewithZagmira,
inwhichcasetheRedWizardofferstojoinforceswiththe
party.


10 .I’jin’sShrine


Crackedmonolithsflanktheentrancetothisruin.Saw-
edgedfernsgrowinthecourtyardbetweenbroken
flagstones.Apairofstonedoorsprovideentrytoa
large,flat-roofedruin.
TheshrinetothetrickstergodI’jin(representedbyan
almiraj)containsoneofninepuzzlecubesneededtoenterthe
TomboftheNineGods.


10 A.ShrineEntrance
Aharmlessalmiraj(seeappendixD)livesinaburrow
underneaththecourtyardandgoestogroundassoonasit
sensesintruders.Whenacharacterapproachesthedoor,read:


Sculpturalreliefsdecoratethedoorsofthisshrine.The
carvingsshowahornedrabbitchargingasmall,feral-
lookingbearwithsharpclaws.Acuneiformmessageis
etchedabovethedoors.

ThemessageiswritteninOldOmuanandreads,“I’jin
teachesustotakethepathleastexpected.”I’jintaughther
followerstoliveunpredictablelives,alwayschangingcourse
andneverstickingtoaplan.Characterswoulddowelltoheed
hermessageinsidetheshrine.
Smallerinscriptionshiddenunderneaththecarvingstell
thestoryofhowI’jin(analmiraj)earnedtheireofObo’laka(a
zorbo)byspoilingastewpreparedforthegodUbtao.For

10 B.PuzzleFloor

Aten-foot-widehallwaystrikesoffintothegloom.
Carvedtilesdepictingvariousbeastsdecoratethe
hallwayfloor.
Givetheplayersacopyofhandout 14 inappendixE.
Thirty-twotilescovera 20 - foot-long, 10 - foot-widestretch
ofthehallway.Eachtileis 5 feetsquare,andthetilesare
arrangedineightrowsoffour.Thebeastsdepictedonthetiles
arealmiraj(seeappendixD),dragonflies,eagles,giraffes,
monkeys,tigers,warthogs,andzebras.
PoisonDarts.Tocrossthehallwaysafely,acharacter
mustavoidsteppingonthesameanimalmorethanonce.If
morethan 20 poundsofpressureisexertedonthewrong
picturetile,fourpoisondartsshootfromholesinthewalls.
Eachdartmakesarangedweaponattack(+ 5 tohit)againsta
randomtargetwithin 10 feetofthetriggeringtile.Asingle
creaturecanbeattackedbymultipledarts.Acreaturehitbya
darttakes 2 ( 1 d 4 )piercingdamageandmustsucceedonaDC
15 Constitutionsavingthrow,taking 7 ( 2 d 6 )poisondamage
onafailedsave,orhalfasmuchdamageonasuccessfulone.A
charactercanspottheholeswithasuccessfulDC 13 Wisdom
(Perception)check.Stuffingtheholeswithclothorwax
preventsthedartsfromlaunching.
Characterscanavoidthetrapbyflyingorteleporting
acrossthehallway,orbyusingspiderclimbspellstocrawl
alongthewallsorceiling.Thewallsaretoosmoothtoclimb
otherwise.
AlmirajTiles.Adetectmagicspellrevealsanauraof
abjurationmagicaroundeachalmirajtile.Acreaturethat
stepsonanalmirajtilegains 2 d 10 temporaryhitpoints.Once
atilehasbestowedthisbenefit,itlosesitsmagicuntilthenext
dawn.Castingdispelmagiconatilehasthesameeffect.
10 C.Labyrinth
Trapsareriddledthroughoutthisdustymaze.Hidden
pressureplatesinthefloorarelocatedinthepositionsmarked
Xontheshrinemap.Ifmorethan 20 poundsofpressureis
exertedonapressureplate,asharpenedaxebladeswings
fromahiddencompartmentintheceiling.Theblademakesa
meleeattack(+ 6 tohit)againstanycreaturestandingonthe
pressureplate.Onahit,thetargettakes 8 ( 1 d 8 + 4 )slashing
damage.Acharactersearchingfortrapsspotsapressureplate
andceilingcompartmentwithasuccessfulDC 16 Wisdom
(Perception)check.Wedginganironspikeorotherobject
underaplatepreventsthetrapfromtriggering.Usingthieves’
tools,acharactercandismantleanaxebladewithasuccessful
DC 15 Dexteritycheck.Ifthecheckfailsby 5 ormore,thetrap
triggersandmakesanattackagainstthecharacterwith
disadvantage.
10 D.PuzzleCube
Thedoorsofthischamberarenotlockedortrapped.
Ashaftofnaturallightspillsfromatinysquareholein
theceilingontoacarvedstonepedestal.Anornate
stonecuberestsonitssurface.
ThecubeisI’jin’spuzzlecube.Itisnottrappedandcanbe
safelyremovedfromthepedestal.
