Colombia

    A fine account of native opera composers, singers and companies, theaters,
    and periodicals. A list of operas performed in the country, by composer, shows
    primarily the standard European works, but a number of Latin composers are
    included. Good color plates; partly annotated bibliography of about 50 items.
    No index. Operatic topics are also covered in the same author’s Historia de la
    música en Colombia(3rd ed.; Bogotá: Editorial ABC, 1963; IOM1083).
    Another useful general history is Andrés Pardo Tovar, La cultura musical en
    Colombia(Bogotá: Lerner, 1966; IOM1082).


Croatia


The country declared its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. The chapter on
music in Croatia: Land, People, Culture, ed. Francis Eterovich (Toronto: U. of
Toronto Press, 1964), identifies leading opera singers and Zagreb’s operatic institu-
tions. The only substantial study of opera seen is in Serbo-Croatian:

    Not seen. It is described as an encyclopedia of the national theater, with entries
