As you can appreciate, if you are contacted by each college you
send your profile to, you will be receiving a lot of informa-
tion. In the early stages of recruiting there will be a process of
elimination both by you and by a number of the coaches you
are communicating with. For you to make a wise decision you
need to have as much information about each school, pro-
gram, and coach as you can find. It is essential that you record
the content of each of your conversations with all coaches as
you begin your personal elimination process. It is so easy to
forget what was discussed and equally easy to confuse one
discussion with another.
If you choose not to organize all information, you will even-
tually confuse programs and coaches and/or lose important
information from phone calls, letters, or documents. Demon-
strate some discipline. Get organized.
You must have a filing system for each college to which you
send information. Manila file folders are a good beginning. On
the tab place the name of the college. On the left inside cover
place the address and each coach’s name and phone number.
A very detailed review of the initial contact between you and
the coach/recruiter is very helpful. All contacts should be
recorded on a communications log.
