Who’s afraid of rich Indian curry sauces made with ghee? On the Perfect 10
Diet, bring it on! Indian curry sauces are full of turmeric, a natural oxidant.
Laboratory studies have found that turmeric inhibits the development of cataract,
lymphoma, and both breast and colon cancer. Turmeric has also been found to
lower cholesterol.
However, many Indian dishes come with white rice. If you want to make a big
impression, don’t be tempted. Ask for brown or basmati rice instead. Brown rice
in Stage Two is perfectly acceptable in moderate amounts. Unlike other white
rice varieties, basmati rice has a relatively low glycemic index, and you can eat
small amounts in Stage Two on the Perfect 10 Diet. However, Indian breads,
such as poori, paratha, and chappati, are made with refined flour and may be
fried, so avoid them.
Many Indian restaurants now use refined vegetable oils instead of ghee (a
clarified butter) for cooking, so be cautious. Ask your waiter or the chef how
your food is prepared, and don’t be shy about asking for it to be cooked in ghee.
If they can’t accommodate your wishes, stick to a grilled protein or vegetable
choice with no cooking fat at all and a side salad.
Italian Restaurants
Okay, if you really want to be thin and fit in the latest Milan fashion, reserve
Italian restaurants for Stage Three only on the Perfect 10 Diet. White pasta is
never an option on the Perfect 10 Diet, and temptations to cheat with what is
forbidden can set you back in no time flat. If you must eat in Italian restaurants
at any stage of the diet, make wise and healthy choices.
