Explanation
- Qing Hao clears Heat in the Lesser Yang.
- Huang Qin clears Heat in the Lesser Yang and also clears Gall-Bladder Heat.
- Zhu Ru and Ban Xia resolve Phlegm.
- Chen Pi and Zhi Ke free the diaphragm, harmonize the Stomach and subdue rebellious
Qi. - Fu Ling, Hua Shi, Gan Cao and Qing Dai clear Damp-Heat and expel Heat via
urination.
This prescription is used when the Lesser Yang pattern presents with pronounced Heat and is
also characterized by Damp-Heat in the Gall-Bladder. The main manifestations are alternation of
chills and heat, the latter being more marked, a bitter taste, a feeling of oppression of the chest,
sour regurgitation, nausea, vomiting of sticky-yellow fluid or dry vomiting, fullness and pain of
costal and hypochondrial regions, Red tongue with sticky-yellow coating, or with a coating
which is half white and half yellow and a Wiry-Slippery-Rapid pulse.
Variations
- In chronic ME cases, both these prescriptions can be modified by reducing the dosages
and adding some Qi or Yin tonics such as Dang Shen Radix Codonopsis pilosulae, Huang
Qi Radix Astragali membranacei, or Mai Men Dong Tuber Ophiopogonis japonici.
