This is late to be answering your letter of April 3, however
we have been living here over the past four months like drunks on a
powder keg. Oranur has overthrown everything, but everything, plans,
the research laboratory, made the summer dwelling probably unusable,
has thrown many workers down with their special illnesses etc. It was a
terrible and at the same time exhilarating experience, as if I had touched
the bottom of the universe. It is still rather confused, but never in my
30 years of research career have I experienced such an upheaval. It is
true that Eva nearly passed away one day, and Ilse fell ill; she went to
New York for a major operation. Peter had scarlet fever which lasted
exactly four hours and was gone, brought forth by Oranur and killed at
the same time. Oranur has attacked every single person at his or her
weakest spot, driving the disease to the surface and killing it. I was the
only one who did not suffer except in the beginning from severe malaise.
I have written a report which cannot be published without further con­
sideration. The results were tremendous.
Our policy has not changed. However, we are widely read, discussed,
talked about, "controversial," universities are giving courses. We have
come of age. The few quacks in physics and medicine, though, stilI in
power, have little to say. They are finished, theoretically, and the good
ones know it.
Did you hear from the American Consul? The State Department and
the President's Office are fully informed on Oranur, so are all
Governors, Defense authorities, etc. There is no secret about it. You
seem still to be under the influence of a finished socialist ideology.
A report on Oranur will most likely appear sometime during the
summer.
Our infant research center is doing well. Several babies have been
born and are taken care of with amazing results. It is incredible what the
release of early chest blocking or removal of routine mistakes on the
part of the mother can do. There is very great hope for the future. But
