• The preferred term in t

he target language should be the

descriptor or alternate descriptor for that language in the concept record

• Equivalent terms in the target language may be

suggested by an expert

in content and language

• Must be verified by literary warr

ant, to discover if it is the

term most often used to

designate concept in

authoritative published sources

• Each language may have only

one descriptor and usually

only one alternate descriptor

• Alternate descriptors must be variant forms of the

descriptor, usually singular and

plural forms of the same

noun; other variant terms in

the target language are UFs

• All terms in the target language must be exact

equivalents of the English
