CAROLINA HOT GRITS ANDSAUSAGE


This 5-minute breakfast trims fat by using vegetarian “sausage.”

3 TABLESPOONS INSTANT GRITS
2 FULLY COOKED VEGETARIAN BREAKFAST SAUSAGE PATTIES, THAWED
AND CRUMBLED
3/4 CUPFAT-FREE MILK
SALT AND GROUND BLACK PEPPER
HOT SAUCE, TO TASTE
1 SLICE LOW-FAT CHEDDAR CHEESE

1. Combine the grits, sausage, and milk in a large microwavable bowl.


2. Cover with vented plastic wrap or a loose lid and microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring


halfway through cooking.


3. Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Top with the cheese. Cover and microwave on high for 30


seconds or until the cheese has melted.


Makes 1 serving.

raisins. Toss in some walnuts or almonds for added nutrition.
